Cleansing and Diarrhea

Unfortunately, everyone gets diarrhea or digestive upset every once in a while. This can result in frequent trips to the bathroom and sometimes excessive wiping to get clean “down there.”

Repeatedly rubbing with dry toilet paper can make the anal area feel raw and sensitive. That’s why we recommend keeping a bottle of Balneol® cleansing lotion handy in every bathroom in the house — you never know when you’re going to need it.

How can Balneol help during bouts of diarrhea?

Balneol can be a lifesaver when you’re making frequent and unpleasant trips to the bathroom for diarrhea. Simply squeeze a dollop of silky Balneol cleansing lotion on toilet paper, and gently wipe. Balneol does not sting or thin the skin. You do not need to rinse with water. It helps to keep the irritation of this sensitive area to a minimum by cleansing, soothing and moisturizing the delicate perianal area.

Use as often as you need.

Balneol forms a protective coating so that skin is clean and soothed between trips to the restroom, but the really great thing is that Balneol can be used as often as you need it. Some people use it every time they use the bathroom. Some people use it in-between trips. Some people use it to soothe and moisturize before bed. There’s no limit.

What causes diarrhea?

Anal discomfort is often the result of diarrhea or constipation. Diarrhea can be the result of infection (eg, with enterotoxigenic E. coli while traveling abroad), food intolerance, eating acidic or spicy foods, drinking alcohol or coffee, and even long-distance running. Taking some medicines (eg, antibiotics) and medical treatments (eg, radiation therapy or surgery) can also cause diarrhea.
